3 Classic Vodka Cocktails You Can Make At Home

Making cocktails at home is a great way to enjoy X MUSE vodka and showcase your skills to guests. Not only is our Scottish barley vodka great on its own, but it really shines through in these classic cocktails.

Below, we've put together a list of the vodka cocktail kits you'll need to start making great cocktails. Then we've given you three classic twists using our X MUSE Vodka, carefully created by Denis Broci at our X MUSE Helicon workshop.

Equipment You'll Need To Make The Best Vodka Cocktail

Making the perfect vodka cocktail at home is about care and attention to the little details that make all the difference. Elevating your senses and showcasing the vodka to give you the best all-around experience.

If you're going to venture into making the best cocktails at home, you'll need a few pieces of equipment to get the best results. We recommend looking for a vodka cocktail set that contains the following things:

THE SHAKER - You'll need to look for a cobbler shaker, the most traditional shaker, and a significant first step in getting your vodka cocktail setup started.
A HAWTHORNE STRAINER - This is the most common strainer used to strain the ingredients directly into the glass. It's simple and can be used with one hand, making it easy to pour.
A BAR SPOON - This long-stemmed spoon is excellent for stirring cocktails in tall glasses.
A MUDDLER - A muddler is essential when making cocktails such as the classic mojitos and Old Fashioned or even the more modern strawberry smash. It is typically used when muddling herbs to release their aroma or fruits to release their flavour. THE CITRUS JUICER- Freshly squeezing your juices is one of the most significant differences between a good cocktail and a great one. Investing in a good citrus juicer is essential for any home cocktail making.
A CHANNEL KNIFE - This knife is used for cutting fruits and vegetables and makes long, spiral strips that give sophistication and elegance to the cocktail.
GLASSWARE - A great cocktail is only as good as the glassware you drink it in. One of the most underestimated aspects of the experience, but getting it right can elevate your cocktail experience. Make sure to check out our full range of exquisite glassware.

Now that you've sorted your vodka cocktail set, it's time to make the best cocktails around. We've taken three classic remixes crafted with X MUSE Vodka.

1. Get Started With A X MUSE Bloody Mary

Originally created as a gin cocktail, the Martini has become a staple as a vodka cocktail. In this recipe, crafted by Denis Broci and first served at our X MUSE Helicon Workshop reception, the herbaceous and slightly sweeter taste of the English Dry Vermouth and the lemon coin garnish greatly enrich the cocktail's flavour profile for a smooth and elegant presentation.

Ingredients:
50ml of X MUSE Scottish barley vodka
30ml of Fino Lustau Sherry
20ml tomato Liquor
10ml Agave syrup (2:1)
5 dashes of saline
5 dashes of green Tabasco
1 ice block
Basil and grated horseradish to garnish

Recommended glassware: The Rock
Method: Build and stir all ingredients together, and then garnish with the basil and grated horseradish.

2. The Mouthwatering X MUSE Martini

If you love the spicy and savoury flavour of the classic Bloody Mary, you will be delighted with this twist created by Denis Broci. Many believe this cocktail was named after Queen Mary Tudor and her particularly bloody reign against Protestants in England in the 16th century. Others believe the origin came from simply mixing vodka with tomato juice as a beverage for the daytime.

Either way, the non-booze ingredients of this classic cocktail are rich in electrolytes, vitamin C, and vitamin B6, which might help with hangovers, which would explain why the Bloody Mary is so popular at brunch.

This particular recipe for the Bloody Mary was created with the delicate notes of our X MUSE vodka in mind. It combines tomato liquor, agave, salt and green tabasco and is stirred with fino sherry. Serve over an ice block and garnish with basil and grated horseradish.

Ingredients:
60ml of X MUSE Scottish barley vodka
10ml Schofields by Asterley Bros, English Dry Vermouth
2.5ml of Simple Syrup (2:1)
3 dashes of salt
Lemon coin to varnish

Recommended glassware: The Coupette
Method: Stir down the ingredients and then fine strain into a chilled glass. Add the lemon coin to varnish and enjoy.

3. The Simple X MUSE Mule

Traditionally served in a copper mug to keep the cocktail cold, the Moscow Mule is the cocktail that popularised vodka outside Russia. The combination of ingredients makes this cocktail refreshing and smooth tasting with a kick at the end of it. Some believe that's where the name came from, the association of vodka with Russia and the 'kick' of flavour from the ginger beer.

Another classic remix by Denis, this cocktail is a mix of our signature X MUSE vodka, Pineapple, Falernum, simple syrup, and topped up with ginger ale. It's then garnished with mint and coconut musk oil. This cocktail can be served in a glass. Like all vodka drinks, it's the best when kept cold and frosty.

Ingredients:
40ml of X MUSE Scottish barley vodka
15ml Velvet Falernum
20ml Clear pineapple juice
10ml simple syrup (1:1)
75ml Ginger ale
Mint and coconut drops to garnish.

Recommended glassware: The Highball
Method: Shake the ingredients in a mixer, and build. Serve in the highball glassware and garnish with mint and coconut drops.
